A.I. 2012
12 years ago I created this piece back when no-one knew what Artificial Intel was. The model was Hollywood Candy who had the sort of looks that could freeze-frame a restaurant on entry. Back then I creted 2 archival giclée 24 inch prints. They are slightly different but equally good.

INNOVATION AUTOPORTRAIT 1991
Elliott pioneered both Photo Art and Cyber Art
This self portrait was taken at the point where Elliott was at the borderline between being purely an artist photographer, which he had pioneered over the previous 20 years and becoming henceforth in parallel, a cyber artist. As things turned out the artist ended up pioneering both photo and cyber art. In 1970 everyone had told Elliott, including the photographers, that photography was not art. But Elliott thought otherwise and so went on to create some of the most spectacular art ever seen in the domain of photography. So when in 1990 all the naysayers chanted in unison "You can't create with computers", Elliott just laughed and went on to find emotion in the machine and create stunning, world-leading art with computers.

MOMENTS LOST IN RED 1984
MARYAM D'ABO plays the lead female role in 007 film,'The Living Daylights'. Elliott created the atmospheric mood with highly sophisticated and beautiful lighting. By curling her hair, adding beautiful make-up and wrapping her in red chiffon, the artist portrays her with a doll-like beauty whose thoughts are drifting away, lost in daydreams. Although light years removed from the more secular work Elliott creates today, there is an appealing innocence and romance to some of his early work. The dreamy feel was augmented by using a Zeiss Softar No 1, which imbued the work with a diffuse glow. The multiple shades of red blend in harmony to create a picture which is a treasure to behold.

THE PURPLE SHADES OF EVENING 1972
I absolutely LOVE this piece. There is almost a spiritual glow to it. The polychromatic time lapse seascapes pre-date Photoshop by decades. This was right back at the beginning where for the first time I discovered that Photography has its own language and was MUCH deeper than I thought. And had phenomenal creative potential, which no-one was using.

METASPHERE NEWS
Official announcement - I have just finished and created TWO spectacular masterpieces to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Metasphere 1974+5. The first is called ULTRASPHERE and is photographically based on the original, but a sort of contemporary version with different colours and details. Mostly Royal Blue. It took 17 layers and 10 channels. The second is completely new and computer generated. Titled SYMPHONY OF THE SPHERES, I have been working on both for years. More soon.

SUBLIME SATIN SYMPHONY - 1975 CLASSIC
Variations on a theme. This 50 year old timeless classic is as beautiful as ever. I was doing an archival print of it and I had the idea for some monochromatic variations. They turned out shockingly good. I will post one soon. I have always advocated the supreme splendour of colour, but sometimes, just sometimes, mono can be great. And in this case they were. I created the pink image due to the total lack of pink in paintings and art generally. Why? It's such a gorgeous colour.

JAMES ELLIOTT PAINTING 5 METRE WIDE SELF PORTRAIT MURAL
This is at Belsize Park, London. This is the one on my studio wall back then. I have always found immodesty very funny and indeed ambiguity. I remember well a model's mum asking me about the famous classic IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART. She enquired of me "Will your pictures of my daughter be as good as the Mona Lisa?" To which I replied "I expect to do better than that." Mother says "Are you serious or joking?" To which I replied "Both". The Mona was hyped as 'Most beautiful woman in the world." Pure babble. Seriously, if you want a great Renaissance painting of a pretty girl take a look at Raphael's La Donna Velata. It's well north of the rodent like Mona. I have seen both close up. The art world never did know its ass from its elbow.

THE GIRL WHO HAD GOLD IN HER HAIR AND HER HEART 2023
This is my latest piece which I just finished. This electronic painting was originally started in 2003. I had the hair and the lips with an otherwise blank face and I liked it like that, but on reflection I realised it should have a face with closed eyes. So I did that and voila! It's a ground-breaking piece of cyber art. Edition of 3 archival giclées. Inspired by all the nightclubs I went to in the 90s. Everyone in the art world is saying 'What can we do with digital?' but I have already done it, since the 80s.

BY JAMES ELLIOTT
New erotic masterpiece. This was created over a 25 year time span and I finished it in 2016. This is the first publication. It is common these days for me to create pictures over many, many years. I pioneered the epic photograph, created over months of continuous work. But sometimes a protracted timescale can work incredibly well. As we age it is normal to become a greater master and so the possibility for elevating images already excellent to a new level. This becomes a reality. I have created at least a hundred masterpieces in this way. It is an edition of 4.

APHRODITE AUTOGENESIS 1995
BY JAMES ELLIOTT

The picture shown here is APHRODITE AUTOGENESIS from 1995. It was a breakthrough image in my pioneering cyber art. The concept of spontaneous materialisation always fascinated me. If something can occur slowly over time then why not fast? The myth of Aphrodite held that she rose up from the sea on a shell and as the water dripped from her body the drops turned to pearls. And so atomic pearls. In stock, edition of 6.

Revolutionary photograph. Metasphere is the world's first painted and sculpted photograph. It took over three months including a month of honing, sanding and filing. The first epic photograph created over time. It is widely loved and has a universal appeal admired by people from ages 8 to 80. It was inspired first by my interest in astronomy and quantum mechanics as a teenager. And the incomprehensible complexity of physicality. A theme which recurs in the canon. It predicts and predates the computer imagery of the millennium era. More at http://www.jameselliott.com/articons/meta/metasphere.html

THE ONLY TRULY GLAMOUROUS COLOUR IS SCARLET 2017
This classic with its atmospheric lighting, elegance and beautiful colour, is widely liked. The splash of colour on a tone thing is an Elliottonian trademark, now much imitated, which goes right back to earliest works. And of course 'Kiss On Frosted Glass' is a good example. I remember at the beginning of the 70s writing on a piece of paper 'splash of colour on tone'. I had by then used it quite a bit and found it very powerful.

IT'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL

This snap was taken when I was a teenager and pursuing art and music in parallel. At this time I did not know which avenue I would take. As I like to say, 'where I would fork off' (!). I thought initially it would be music but I never wanted to be famous. When I played with a band I did not like the feeling of being on display. With Photography I wanted the work to be famous so it could be shared. I know how many love my art and praise it in the extreme. So there is an altruistic aspect. The more people see the work the more 'feelgood' one spreads. Great this snap is in colour as most things were black and white back then.

WE ARE 25!!

Traci Topps

Having had an exhausting evening creating pioneering cyber art on his computer, Elliott was falling asleep on the sofa at around 4 a.m.,when he was suddenly startled by the telephone ringing. He was at his former home in Hampstead, London. It was Traci Topps, legendary American glamour queen and one of the world's most beautiful, glamorous girls. She was calling from her home in Texas.

Elliott : Hello

Traci Topps: Hi James it's Traci

Elliott : Hi, howz you? Erm...... it's 4a.m. here

Traci Topps: Were you asleep?

Elliott : No...... although I probably should be......

An hour conversation followed covering everything from the origins of the universe, to the colour of lipstick and a new subject - the internet. Traci can write html....... which would have been impressive if only Elliott had the faintest idea what it was....
El started firing off loads of questions.

Elliott : "What's a server?" "What's a host?" "What's a domain name?"

Traci Topps: You should register your name.

Elliott : Why?

Traci Topps: Well, someone else could take it and then you can't have it.

Elliott : Oh....

Traci Topps: Shall I check to see if it is still available.

Elliott : Mmmm....why not?

Traci Topps: Yes it is.......

Elliott : Marvellous.....what does that mean....?

Traci Topps: I could register it for you......do you have a credit card?

Elliott : Yes, but you have to promise not to paint the town with it...

Traci Topps: Well, actually........mmmm........yes.......

Traci registered JAMES ELLIOTT.com for $250 Australian dollars whilst on the phone from Texas to London and much to her credit did not paint the town with El's credit card. In retrospect this was hugely fortuitous, as both 'James' and 'Elliott' are very popular names. The name was left parked on Australian servers for a while.
Elliott connected to the internet shortly after and immediately understood its importance. So he moved the name to UK servers and put up a page about 'Kiss on Frosted Glass'. His first essay on a picture. Amazed at the number of people hitting the site he decided to create a Megasite. The artist looked around what was then a quite small web and observed:
"What a surprise, a website is a website is a website!"
He thought they all looked like office filing systems. Legacy thinking. So he decided to do something original. So the new site was the first ever virtual 3D museum of Art ever put on-line. In fact for years it remained the only site with a 3D interface. Although this was later influential (copied), like almost everything else Elliott does. The original site in the 90s had just two interfaces: Museum Square (now the home page) was originally static and did not have the flashing neon on either side or indeed the futuristic colours.
The Museum Interior was the other original interface - what is now the basic room format. Since it has been online, the site has gone through endless accretions and completely new interfaces have been created. The latest being Scarlet Starlight Stairway. The megasite has now been through over 1600 different versions and now has countless things to explore.
And if you still read things, the site has over 100,000 words written by Elliott, from long stories to four word aphorisms. And for those more visual than aural, there are superb videos and the site can be navigated visually (helpful if you don't speak much English). The website has taken around 2,500 hours of work thus far and the diversity of material is unparalleled. There are now over 30 rooms, many having additional interfaces and depth. So dig deep, the site is full of surprises.

This expansion and fine tuning is still continuing today and the site is now hundreds of times its original size.

MAGICAL METAPHYSICAL MYSTERIES
"The greatest art captures an indefinable metaphysical magic.
That is what I always search for and find.
If it is not to be found, I abandon the image and take a new trajectory.
In visual art it is rare. You come across it with greater frequency in music.
The way chord progressions, melody, rhythm and harmony suddenly
synergistically coalesce into a cohesive dynamic and draw you in. Lyrics can add poetry.
As surely as you want to play the music repeatedly until satiated, so it is with art.
You go back to it over and over until it becomes a part of you.
99.99% of art does not have this quality. It's just flat.
Including most famous brands."

THE 332 HOUR PHOTOGRAPH
METASPHERE 1974+5
Photography in the early 70s was a form of observational recording, a product of the mind and brain. My art came from some place higher. Straight out of my imagination (mind) and with a depth which was spiritual. I knew that for photography to become a true art, it would have to come from within and not without. 'Metasphere' was the world's first painted photo-sculpture. It took over 3 months including a month of filing, sanding and honing to perfection. The first epic photograph.

This autoportrait was created unaware of the fact that Sir John Herschel first used the word 'photography' at Somerset House in 1839. Nice bit of synchronicity. NEO NUCLEI QUADRANGLE SPLIT 2020 by JAMES ELLIOTT - 35 YEARS IN THE MAKING!
But one of my greatest!
It's 1986 and I am in Paris on the Rue de Rivoli looking at the merch in the tourist shops. I spotted a couple of Venetian style masks, which I thought were beautiful and would be great as an element in a picture. They remained in a tissued box in my various homes from Belsize Park to Abbey Road for about 30 years before I did anything with them. In 2003 I created a small cyber abstraction and in 2005 I turned it into the quad image, now the background. I also gave it the title. I really liked the hyper complexity, but felt it lacked the kind of explosive power I search for. It needed a human presence. A decade later in 2015 I realised the missing element was the mask. I altered them a bit changing the colours to something more Elliottonian and I removed certain painted elements I did not like. I also perfected some of the mask detail. This year I fine tuned the spectacular colour of the entire image, which turned it into a masterpiece. Olé...!

THE GENESIS OF NEMESIS by JAMES ELLIOTT - NEW WRITTEN PIECE
This is a new 2100 word essay on my anthropological masterpiece NEMESIS, created in 2000. The piece requires viewer concentration. You won't get it at a glance. The essay is about how the picture was created ex nihilo from a black square. Bit like the Big Bang theory, except this is for real. It was created in sunny Greencroft Gardens, just before I moved to Abbey Road, the same year. Unique World Edition of 6. http://www.jameselliott.com/artvox/nemesis/nemesis.html

The phone rang, it was Sarenna. I jumped in the Lotus and drove across London to pick her up. This is how she looked when I arrived! No, her figure LOOKED like that! It is NOT retouched! We then drove into Mayfair and went to the Hilton on Park Lane and The Hard Rock Café. Glamour makes everything memorable.

Mars was Model, Muse & GF for 5 years. She was beautiful, with very long legs. You can see here, she is almost the height of the door. This is one of those masterpieces that got somehow sidelined and became an obscure hidden classic. This is the first time it has ever been seen.

100 QUOTES, MAXIMS & APHORISMS
50 NEW PAGES
100 Classic Quotes by James Elliott Photographer
I started writing in 1997 when I made my first page for the web. I wrote TRIPPING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC OF LIPSTICK AND LOST LOVE (in Art Icons), which was a 3,000 word essay on KISS ON FROSTED GLASS 1984. I was amazed at the number of people visiting the site, so started the supersite now in existence. I had also noticed on multiple occasions throughout my 40s that people would often say "I must write that down" or somesuch, when I said things and some actually did write them down. So I thought, rather as I did with Photography, that things people like deserve a wider audience. In 2000 I stopped keeping a diary and instead wrote down exceptional thoughts. Over the ensuing decades this has become 2,000 written pieces from 4 word aphorisms to 10,000 word essays. 100 of the aphorisms, maxims and quotes are now in their own gallery: QUOTES QUOTA (through ART ICONS). Or you can access them all in sequence here http://www.jameselliott.com/quotes/classicquotes.html

A number of interfaces have been revamped and a load of new material has been added. The great thing about the website is that it is an experience in itself, quite apart from the extraordinary art. Most websites emulate office files. The site has been online since 1997 and has had about 15 million views. It is extremely well curated and goes MUCH deeper than most artists. For example, there is an 11,000 word biography with 84 illustrations. But then, there is a HUGE story to tell. And there are around 25 interfaces and rooms to explore. So enjoy it whilst it is free.......

THE STRIPES SYMPHONY 1976 BY JAMES ELLIOTT
Major work from the 70s. There was this movement of stripes painters, which I thought was strenuously pretentious, so I thought I would create a real work of art in which I would do the stripe painting and then include it in a photograph which was a proper work of art. I was after all, pioneering photo art. Not only did I make the painting but also the shades, the shoes, the chair, the background (a bigger stripes painting) and I also sourced the t shirt and the tights. My muse, long-legged Mars came ready made. Shot on 6cm x 4.5cm film. One of my early 'Symphonies For The Camera', it is a Unique World Edition of 6.

COMPLETE VIDEO REVAMP!!
Apologies for the late update. I have been on a creative high and created amazing work, so didn't want to interrupt the flow, but the first thing to nota bene about the site is that ALL video content has been updated. There was a lot of browser conflict with the flash videos and they are becoming obsolete. So EVERYTHING has been replaced with mp4 which will make it future proof. The main videos have been cut to samplers of 5-7 minutes and so hit harder and match the attention span of most people, these days. For greater depth see the DVDs. VOICE OF A NEW GENERATION is 15 minutes long and REVOLUTION INNOVATION EVOLUTION is 23 minutes. They are pro produced, not the usual selfie garbage. And there is zero fat (most movies are 80% fat). Watch out for the site revamp. It will have a front page. EL

THE DREAM (REQUIEM FOR BEAUTY) 2020 by JAMES ELLIOTT
Unique World Edition Of 5.
Just putting the finishing touches to what I believe is probably the most beautiful masterpiece I have aver created. I created three really strong pieces. This one about dreams, another about hallucinations and a final piece which is an autoportrait. Probably also my strongest ever self portrait. 'The Dream' is on par or better than 'Kiss On Frosted Glass' 1984 and other icons, so likely to be hugely popular. The 'Requiem' bit is about the complete absence of beauty in contemporary art, which is a catastrophe. So I thought I would create an icon of splendour. Beauty will always be central to great art. And I will never stop creating it regardless of trends and fashions! Beauty is to art as melody, rhythm and harmony are to music.

MOMENTS LOST IN RED by JAMES ELLIOTT
Unique World Edition Of 4.
Maryam D'Abo stars in this exquisite 'symphony in red'. Elliott never shoot celebs, as he considers it a sort of reflected glory. But in this case she became famous afterwards. Maryam plays the lead female role in 007 film,'The Living Daylights'.

WHY I CREATE LESS THAN OTHER ARTISTS
10 pictures a year, like ten songs on a music album except, of course, that my images take longer to create. Sometimes MUCH longer. Better 500 masterpieces than 50,000 minor pieces. Indeed one masterpiece is worth MORE than any number of minor pieces. Quality or quantity, make your choice as you can't have both. I made my choice right at the beginning.

Three decades ago when I was pioneering cyber art, I created this masterpiece. It was an early triumph. DEATH OF THE BLACK WIDOW'S DAUGHTER - WORLD EXCLUSIVE
This major work was started back in 1976, when I still lived Deep on Darkest Dartmoor Down in Dear Devonia.
It is without doubt one of my finest pieces of heavyweight art. Although it was created at a time when I never thought about things like heavyweight or lightweight. An icon of insanity, death, depravity, disaster and tragic loss. I made the child coffin myself in one of my Devon studios. The art spans an incredible arc and this is at one extreme end of it. The darker, heavier side. A hugely complex piece both creatively and technically, it took decades to get it right, but was well worth the struggle. I finished it recently.

SELF PORTRAIT IN THE BLUE ROOM
In those passionate, workaholic days of the early 70s, pioneering photo art 70 hours a week, I never thought of doing self portraits. I was more interested in the innovation than myself. In fact, I did my first autoportrait at the behest of a magazine, doing a 6 page feature and cover in 1974, when I was 23. Since then I have done only about one a year and most were not planned. This is one of the best ones.....

NEMESIS 2000
Without question one of the greatest heavyweight pictures in the canon. Why did I pioneer Cyber Art? Consider this. For Nemesis I started with a black square. Nothing else. No subject. The entire scenario came from that. Nothing imported or added. Think about it. Nemesis is only partly abstract. Note blind raging bull losing its head, screaming punk pig and the stern, solemn, leonine face of reason.

CYBERCRYSTAL CLOUDCLUSTER
In the 20th century everyone said "You can't create art with computers." So I created art with computers. Still do. This is one of my early triumphs about states of consciousness created in 1998. Cyber Art and Photography have far greater power than painting. Check out the transluminescence in this picture. There is no way you can render that with paint. Had I been born a hundred years ago I'd have been a a painter.

AS AN INNOVATOR I rarely go back on my tracks. My hallmark is perpetual originality. I made an exception here as I knew it would yield a classic. JUST EDITING THE SCANDALOUS BITS OUT OF MY DIARIES hahahaha...
when I came across this quote on the inside cover of my 1990 diary, which predates PHOTOSHOP, never mind its uptake some years later. Even in 1995 Photoshop was a still a highly specialized thing, used by those ahead of the curve. And digital imaging was in its infancy. Few believed in it. I had, of course, by 1990, already used high end systems, like the Quantel Paintbox, which cost hundreds of thousands. Later I used the Kodak Premier system. I had no idea when I wrote this prediction, that I would pioneer CYBER ART. Although I had, in fact, already started.

Speaking of popularity, this piece got 340 likes on FACEBOOK on day one. The best so far. Although created in 1975, this has never been published. FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS DEDICATED THEIR ENTIRE LIFE TO ART, less than 10 pictures a year may not seem like a lot, but it IS, given the consistency of quality and painstaking nature of the work. Always either marvellous or a masterpiece hahahaha (forgive my propensity to tell the truth). Problem is in a canon of 450 works, is that much great art gets pushed aside. METASPHERE 1974+5 BY JAMES ELLIOTT
Arguably the most revolutionary art photograph of the 20th Century, 'Metasphere' introduced the concept of the epic photograph, created over time. 332 hours of work to be precise. The image is a huge painted photo-sculpture, so meticulously created that it predicts and predates the immaculate 3D imagery of the Nineties and Noughties. The exact opposite of the snapshot. Inspired by the complexity of physicality and quantum mechanics.

Pioneering computer image, this was probably inspired by reading about quantum mechanics and the miracle of human vision as a teenager. The image has an oblique reference to rods and cones and the fovea centralis.... and expresses the superiority of colour over mono.

TAKEN DURING FILMING OF 'VOICE OF A NEW GENERATION'
Olé!!!!!! Hahahahaha This previously unseen shot, taken during the filming of Elliott's first video at Belsize Park around 1990. The cloaks and knee length boots disappeared with the Nineties and Noughties and the hat is now the Mark IV. Also, after EL left the Darkstudio, he decided never to own a studio again, as he finds the environment sterile and uninspiring, which is why his studio looked unlike everyone else's. And computers made them less of a necessity. Also why spend money on overheads when you can spend it on adventure?! So for 25 years he has shot on location and to great effect. Glamorous locations at that. His studios have long since been replaced with computer rooms.

This was one of my early triumphs, along with 'Infinity and Eternity' of 1972, both of which ultimately led to 'Metasphere' 1975+5. They are all predominantly spherical. Although each has their own type of mystery. They say if you play The Beatles or Led Zep backwards you get a sinister message. You get a message about Satan or some such. Well if you turn NUCLEUS 1974 upside down, many get something else entirely. Quantum mechanics, abstract geometric erotica or the spiritual glow of light? You decide.... NORVEGE NUL POINTS... GRAND BRETAGNE DOUZE POINTS... HAHAHAHA
Ever wonder how icons become icons? Neither do I, but people must be quite easy to please considering some of the rubbish which gets there. Munch's brushwork would do credit to a wunderkind at kindergarten (I'm being kind). EL

JAMES ELLIOTT AND THE QUEEN OF PAGE 3 - JO GUEST
One of the most fun people on the planet...... Lamborghinis, Lotus Esprit Turbos, helicopters, London's prestigious Landmark Hotel and top nightclubs Stringfellows and Tramp. All held together with much laughter and Champagne, even on one occasion, popping a cork in the street! Must be worse things to do with your life.... hahahaha.... see "Portraits".

"AS STRONG AN IDENTITY AS WELLES OR HITCHCOCK"
CAT IN THE HAT CAME BACK (wreaked a lot of havoc on the way)
JAMES ELLIOTT - 20 YEARS AS A FINE ART MAVERICK
Actually, it's 50 years now, as this press article was published in 1995, as a cover and 5-page feature. It's now on the web. See link. For those unfamiliar, the headline is from REM's Sidewinder. Note especially the last line. Very few? None! http://www.iconpublications.com/photon/nov95/elliott.html

TIPSY BUBBLES 2017
Back in the Champagne soaked days of sunny Greencroft Gardens, glamour queen Traci Topps came to visit me from Texas in 1994. We created this really fun piece together. My corner shop stocked this fab Champagne, which I always bought. It took 23 years to take the picture from 99.9 to 100%. Note the odd shoes.

NEW SELF PORTRAIT
Elliott literally just made this in August 2017. One of his strongest self portraits ever. In 50 years he has only created around 25 self portraits. The first at the behest of a magazine in 1974, to accompany a six page interview feature and cover.

UNIVERSAL ULTRAVISION 2017 - NEW MASTERPIECE!
Elliott's latest masterpiece displays an unprecedented energy, vibrancy and vivacity Following and surpassing the level set by 'The Magical Masquerade'. Major work. Much of his recent work shows a fascination with exacting, almost atomic complexity and cosmological vastness. Few would take on such huge concepts.

THE PICTURE FOR MARGARET POMEROY
MARGARET POMEROY WAS A WOMAN OF GREAT BEAUTY.
She and her jealous sister Eleanor both fell in love with the same man. Eleanor locked Margaret in the dungeon of Berry Pomeroy Castle (England's most haunted house) until she slowly and painfully starved to death. This picture was the second elegy. To see all five go here: http://www.jameselliott.com/whitelady/whiteladygallery.html

MADAM FLY IS 40!!
But does NOT look her age. Created in 1977, Madam Fly remains futuristic and timeless. El just put it up on Facebook recently and the initial likes demographic ranged from a 17 year old girl to a lady 102 years old. How fantastic that the appeal of Elliott's work can span such a fantastic age divide!! The ever popular image has FOUR magazine covers to its credit, has been exhibited in London and New York, appeared in anthologies and seen by millions on the web. It's a Unique World Edition of 10. El only did 18 pictures in editions as large as 10. The rest of the canon are all single figures. He pioneered unique one-offs and tiny editions in the early 70s. A recent remaster allowed a larger 24 inch giclée print than the original 16 inch Cibachromes. They look pretty impressive.
