In the 20th century everyone said "You can't create art with computers." So I created art with computers. Still do. This is one of my early triumphs about states of consciousness created in 1998. Cyber Art and Photography have far greater power than painting. Check out the transluminescence in this picture. There is no way you can render that with paint. Had I been born a hundred years ago I'd have been a a painter.

THE ELEGY ELECTRONICA (SPIRITUAL RITUALS)
Do I have an eye for an image? Haha. Yeah I have two. Well, this image certainly has an eye and most people miss it. I always know when I have created a masterpiece as I feel no inclination to continue a specific trajectory. After 50 years of Goth, this is the candles on the icing on the cake!!

CHAMPAGNE RENDEZVOUS DELUXE 1998
AS AN INNOVATOR I rarely go back on my tracks. My hallmark is perpetual originality. I made an exception here as I knew it would yield a classic. My (much copied) innovation of painting objects to emphasise form and abstract them, disappeared in 1987. The only exception is this masterpeice done over a decade later. Note the curves of the girl, bottle and glass.

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD
The intro to the REMORSE story now covers who and what were Elliott's influences.
REMORSE STORY TWICE THE SIZE!
The essay VANISHING BODIES AND DISAPPEARING DOORS is now the biggest ever at 10,500 words.
It was originally 5,000 words. It's a damn good read. Go here:

ART COLLECTORS IN ST JOHN'S WOOD
Did you know pioneering artist photographer JAMES ELLIOTT lives in Abbey Road, London? Famous for its music studio. If you are interested in collecting the world's greatest photo art, send a message, to GL@MOUR.com. Critical acclaim see http://www.jameselliott.com/press.html
Whilst editing the diaries I couldn't help thinking of Wilde's 'I always travel with my diary, I like something scandalous to read in the train." hahahaha.... Here is an aphorism from 4 May 1999......

JUST EDITING THE SCANDALOUS BITS OUT OF MY DIARIES hahahaha...
when I came across this quote on the inside cover of my 1990 diary, which predates PHOTOSHOP, never mind its uptake some years later. Even in 1995 Photoshop was a still a highly specialized thing, used by those ahead of the curve. And digital imaging was in its infancy. Few believed in it. I had, of course, by 1990, already used high end systems, like the Quantel Paintbox, which cost hundreds of thousands. Later I used the Kodak Premier system. I had no idea when I wrote this prediction, that I would pioneer CYBER ART. Although I had, in fact, already started.
VOX POP - MARS IN MAGENTA - WORLD EXCLUSIVE
Speaking of popularity, this piece got 340 likes on FACEBOOK on day one. The best so far. Although created in 1975, this has never been published. FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS DEDICATED THEIR ENTIRE LIFE TO ART, less than 10 pictures a year may not seem like a lot, but it IS, given the consistency of quality and painstaking nature of the work. Always either marvellous or a masterpiece hahahaha (forgive my propensity to tell the truth). Problem is in a canon of 450 works, is that much great art gets pushed aside. Here is one from the vaults, as I say, never published.

MADAM FLY IS POP POP POP!!
If consensual validation is how you judge it, Madam Fly 1977 has it. Four magazine covers, a yearbook entry, countless publications, exhibited internationally in art galleries, including at Trump Tower, seen by millions on the web. Still widely loved 4 decades after it was created. Timeless indeed. Likely a good investment. Edition of ten, hand printed on Cibachrome Deluxe years ago (vintage) by the artist, no less. Have one in stock and framed. 16 inches high approx.

A PALETTE OF PASTELS 2018 BY JAMES ELLIOTT
Just finished this. Do you prefer your music pianissimo or fortissimo?!!
I love both and can do them equally well. My mastery of colour is unparalleled. Unless I missed something...... The colour is all dialed back here, with a seamless blend of the girl, make-up and surroundings.

DEEP IN DARKEST DARTINGTON, DOWN IN DEAR DEVONIA
Back in the day during my work-fit, pioneering photo art, I would often of an evening visit neighbouring Dartington, five miles up the road. I would drink at The Cott with Mars. It was a charming place built in 1320 (yes). We would also visit the Art Cinema at Dartington Hall Private Art College. Despite the international reputation, the college closed 'Due to lack of funding'. Hahahaha. Truth is the rich kids were all bombed out of their brains and too many people died. There are always two reasons: the one that sounds good and the real one hahahaha

"GLAMOUR IS A FORM OF INTELLIGENCE".
JAMES ELLIOTT (from 2004)
(Because you have figured out what is important).
The word 'glamour', was a Scottish variant of 'grammar', because magic was associated with learning. Elliott has always been a glamour junkie! The greatest exponent of glamour was Jayne Mansfield, half a century ago. She was her own walking work of art. Dumb Blonde? No, it was an act. She was an actress.
She had a genius level IQ of 163..... so there bitches! hahahaha

Haven't had a quote for months! Partly because images take precedence. This one I wrote back in the Seventies, still makes me laugh. It makes the philosophical point that we can regard the same phenomenon in completely different ways... bit like art really....

MUSES, MODELS, MISTRESSES AND MARS
I often joke that my biggest influences were girls, followed by the crazy life I lived as an adolescent and teenager. Not other artists. Back in the early 70s, when I was pioneering photo art 24/7, I would often late at night. go the nightclubs in Torquay. One evening on my way, I met Mars and never got there. She kept offering me sweets. I said "I'm not sure I should take sweets from a stranger..." We were together 5 years. She appears in about 50 of the works.

METASPHERE 1974+5 BY JAMES ELLIOTT
Arguably the most revolutionary art photograph of the 20th Century, 'Metasphere' introduced the concept of the epic photograph, created over time. 332 hours of work to be precise. The image is a huge painted photo-sculpture, so meticulously created that it predicts and predates the immaculate 3D imagery of the Nineties and Noughties. The exact opposite of the snapshot. Inspired by the complexity of physicality and quantum mechanics.

THE MEDUSA MONUMENTA 1979 by James Elliott
This is a world exclusive! I have never shown this piece before and it is rather wonderful. Created in London, deep in darkest Cricklewood (Well, infamous serial killer Nilsen, was in the street next to me, at the time I created this). Bit close for comfort hahahaha. By that time, the closed dreamy eyes were already a bit of an Elliottonian trademark.

LUSH LADY LOVEBITES! - TEENAGE WASTELAND INFLUENCES.
Here I am at 18 wondering what the EL to do with my Life hahahaha. Glamour queen Pauline didn't just give me lovebites (in case you are wondering what that is on my neck) and a love affair, but a direction which wasn't formerly there. At that age I'd believe anything a beautiful girl told me and she thought I was artistically gifted. I didn't. She was a much bigger influence on me than Salvador Dali hahahahaha

POLYCHROMATIC PARTICLES (Soft Structural Synthesis) 1999.
Pioneering computer image, this was probably inspired by reading about quantum mechanics and the miracle of human vision as a teenager. The eye can distinguish wavelengths of light MILLIONTHS OF A MILLIMETRE apart. Think about it. Or 10 to the minus 9 if you like maths. The image has an oblique reference to rods and cones and the fovea centralis.... and expresses the superiority of colour over mono.

TAKEN DURING FILMING OF 'VOICE OF A NEW GENERATION'
Olé!!!!!! Hahahahaha This previously unseen shot, taken during the filming of Elliott's first video at Belsize Park around 1990. The cloaks and knee length boots disappeared with the Nineties and Noughties and the hat is now the Mark IV. Also, after EL left the Darkstudio, he decided never to own a studio again, as he finds the environment sterile and uninspiring, which is why his studio looked unlike everyone else's. And computers made them less of a necessity. Also why spend money on overheads when you can spend it on adventure?! So for 25 years he has shot on location and to great effect. Glamorous locations at that. His studios have long since been replaced with computer rooms.

EVOLUTIONARY FRAGMENTS 1977 by JAMES ELLIOTT
Loafing around in the sun on fabulous Blackpool Sands in Devon, a favourite haunt, I noticed an extraordinary wet pebble (they don't show their colours dry, all are submerged in the photograph). I collected several huge bags full. 27 hours of work (or loafing on the beach in the sun, depending on your point of view haha). Even driving around the cliff top to Slapton Sands. Remember thinking.... there must be half the history of the world here.... countless millennia...... 100 pebbles..... but every one is exceptional.....

THE ANGELICA GEOMETRICA
One of the early pioneering computer works. Created on a PowerMac 8100, which despite being state-of-the-art, involved an awful lot of time watching progress bars...... despite having 8mb of onboard RAM. It also had ab additional 8mb of RAM fitted, which cost an extra £1500.... yes that is £1500 for 8 megabytes of RAM.... not gigabytes.....
The originals are beautiful at around 24 inches square.... to buy this piece e mail us for price.

FIRST AUTOPORTRAIT 1974
Whilst pioneering photo art, it never occurred to me to document anything, not even myself. I was too busy chasing the ultimate photograph. My first autoportrait was done at the behest of a magazine, publishing a 6 page feature and cover. Taken around the time of 'Metasphere' 1974+5..... my first scarlet jacket......

FROM THE VAULTS...... The Solemn Sleeping Silence Of Snow 1967
A world exclusive.... this was from really early on, when I was still a teenager. My photography at that point was still very much observational, like everybody else's, a little before I started pulling ideas straight out of my imagination and turning photography completely on its head. Olé!'

NUCLEUS 1974 - QUANTUM PHYSICS OR ABSTRACT GEOMETRIC EROTICA?
This was one of my early triumphs, along with 'Infinity and Eternity' of 1972, both of which ultimately led to 'Metasphere' 1975+5. They are all predominantly spherical. Although each has their own type of mystery. They say if you play The Beatles or Led Zep backwards you get a sinister message. You get a message about Satan or some such. Well if you turn NUCLEUS 1974 upside down, many get something else entirely. Quantum mechanics, abstract geometric erotica or the spiritual glow of light? You decide.... I guess people always find themselves in Art.

was the first piece I ever put up on the web in 1997, about Kiss on Frosted Glass. Surprised by the number of people hitting the single page, I subsequently went on to write over 100,000 words. LIVE LONG AND LAUGH LOUDLY!!
Many thanks to all of you who have been supportive this year. The picture 'Celebration' was created 20 years ago in 1997. One of the early pioneering computer works. I like to think of it as a beautiful paragon of frivolity. The opposite of (say) 'Remorse'. See 9,500 word essay here

NORVEGE NUL POINTS... GRAND BRETAGNE DOUZE POINTS... HAHAHAHA
Ever wonder how icons become icons? Neither do I, but people must be quite easy to please considering some of the rubbish which gets there. Munch's brushwork would do credit to a wunderkind at kindergarten (I'm being kind). EL

TIPSY BUBBLES 2017
Back in the Champagne soaked days of sunny Greencroft Gardens, glamour queen Traci Topps came to visit me from Texas in 1994. We created this really fun piece together. My corner shop stocked this fab Champagne, which I always bought. It took 23 years to take the picture from 99.9 to 100%. Note the odd shoes.

NEW SELF PORTRAIT
Elliott literally just made this in August 2017. One of his strongest self portraits ever. In 50 years he has only created around 25 self portraits. The first at the behest of a magazine in 1974, to accompany a six page interview feature and cover.

LUSH SCARLET ICONICA 2017 - NEW CLASSIC!
The artist just created this and although the Elliottonian colour palette is very much in evidence, I think this surpasses previous images in terms of opulence, elegance and style. Future classic, if I say so myself..... which I often do hahahaha... Picture is TST (Title Still Tentative).

UNIVERSAL WONDERVISION 2017 - NEW MASTERPIECE!
Elliott's latest masterpiece displays an unprecedented energy, vibrancy and vivacity Following and surpassing the level set by 'The Magical Masquerade'. Major work. Much of his recent work shows a fascination with exacting, almost atomic complexity and cosmological vastness. Few would take on such huge concepts.

THE PICTURE FOR MARGARET POMEROY
MARGARET POMEROY WAS A WOMAN OF GREAT BEAUTY.
She and her jealous sister Eleanor both fell in love with the same man. Eleanor locked Margaret in the dungeon of Berry Pomeroy Castle (England's most haunted house) until she slowly and painfully starved to death. This picture was the second elegy. MADAM FLY IS 40!!
But does NOT look her age. Created in 1977, Madam Fly remains futuristic and timeless. El just put it up on Facebook recently and the initial likes demographic ranged from a 17 year old girl to a lady 102 years old. How fantastic that the appeal of Elliott's work can span such a fantastic age divide!! The ever popular image has FOUR magazine covers to its credit, has been exhibited in London and New York, appeared in anthologies and seen by millions on the web. It's a Unique World Edition of 10. El only did 18 pictures in editions as large as 10. The rest of the canon are all single figures. He pioneered unique one-offs and tiny editions in the early 70s. A recent remaster allowed a larger 24 inch giclée print than the original 16 inch Cibachromes. They look pretty impressive.
